History

thumbnail5In 1968, Fred and Connie Wert had a dream, to own and operate their own family restaurant. Connie Haines Wert grew up watching her parents, two very successful owners and operators of the historic Village Inn. She knew what it took to run a successful restaurant. As Fred bartended for year at the Village Inn, he also understood what it took!

On July 29th, 1968, Fred and Connie’s pic1dream came true. On that day Wert’s Café opened their doors for the first time. In Wert’s humble beginnings, there were only twelve tables and nine employees. Fred was the bartender while Connie cooked in the morning and waitressed for lunch and dinner. During this time, the Wert’s were also busy raising a family of three…their sons Greg and Phil and daughter Kathy. Through the years, there have been many changes at Wert’s, including the addition of a second dining room and waiting area.

pic7Wert’s now has 25 tables and its staff is 36 people strong, the staff includes all three of the children, as they all grown with children of their own.  Thankfully, some things have remained the same,  Wert’s still serves up great food, provides friendly service, in a warm family atmosphere that will keep you coming back time and time again.
